Draft twelve legends. Win the World Series.

About Run The Diamond

Run The Diamond is a free daily-style draft game built on every MLB season from 1901 to 2025. Each spin lands on a real team-season and you take one player off that roster, twelve times, filling a full lineup and pitching staff under a $190M budget.

Where the numbers come from

Player value is Wins Above Replacement from Baseball-Reference. A player's price is set by their WAR that season, so the great years cost what they were worth and you cannot afford a star at every spot.

How a season is decided

Your roster's bats and arms set the runs you score and allow, chemistry between real teammates lifts both, and 162 games are played against actual all-time clubs. Win enough and you reach October, where the deepest rounds stiffen against weaker teams.

Is it the same game every day?

No. Every run draws its own team-seasons, so the board in front of you is new each time. The modes change the rules rather than the data.

Decades Draft

Pick a decade

Draft only from players of a single decade. Chase each era's best-ever record.

Franchise Mode

Build a dynasty

Draft one club's all-time roster. The Yankees give you a century of stars, the Marlins give you thirty years, and you live with whichever you picked. Sharing a uniform is the price of entry here, so it earns you nothing: the chemistry you get is the chemistry you build.

Division Draft

Win your division

Draft only from the clubs that were really in one division, from 1994 on. The map moves with history, so Houston is in the NL Central until 2013 and the AL West after it.

How to play

Spin. Each spin draws a random team-season from MLB history (1901-2025). Draft one player from that roster who fits an open spot.

Budget. You have $190M for all twelve spots. Prices come from WAR, so you can't afford a star every spin. Spend wisely and don't blow it early. Scarce spots like catcher and closer are worth grabbing when a good one appears.

Positions. C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, DH, two starters, and a closer. Many players fit several spots, so you choose where to play them and your DH slot is a flex.

Chemistry. Teammates who share a real bond play better together. Every bond pays both players, and a player wears the color of their strongest one:

Roster shape. A balanced roster with no weak links plays better than a pile of stars, and your build earns an archetype.

Season. You play 162 games against real all-time opponents (the '27 Yankees, the '19 Astros) with a marquee gauntlet mixed in.

Playoffs & ranking. Reach October and chase the World Series; the deepest rounds stiffen against weaker teams. Every season earns a team rating from 1 to 99. It also gets a rank against every real MLB team-season, on paper. That is not your leaderboard place.

October, batter by batter. In every mode but the quick draft and the daily, the playoffs are played out a plate appearance at a time: nine innings, real base runners, your rotation against the club's own lineup. Watch a series or sim it, and after any season you can go back and watch October from the results screen.

The record. 116 wins ties the all-time mark; 117+ makes you the Greatest of All Time, a rare feat that takes a near-perfect draft.

WAR is Baseball-Reference's, 1901 to 2025. FanGraphs rates the same season differently. A starter who threw more than 210 innings is priced and rated on what he did in 210, which his card names. The WAR beside his name is his whole season.
