How to play Roll Call

Rules and tips

Roll Call is a daily roster game. You get one team, one season and 90 seconds. Every blank is a player who wore that uniform that year. Type the ones you remember.

  • Use full names. Don’t stress the spelling. The typeahead finds him from a few letters.
  • Right player, wrong season? That’s not a miss. We tell you and you keep going.
  • A wrong name doesn’t cost you anything but time.
  • Got a guy who was on that roster but isn’t one of the blanks? He still counts as a deep cut. The blanks are the famous guys, not the whole team.

One roster a day

A new team and season drop at midnight your time. Everybody gets the same one. Finish a day and your streak keeps going. Roll Call is an Arcade Card game. A free RunThe.GG account gets one play of it, once ever. The Daily Crossword, Sportegories, Alma Mater and Career Path are free every day, no account needed. The Card opens all twelve with no limit, plus the Archive of every past day. Five of the games also have NBA, NFL and MLB editions.

How we pick the blanks

Rosters run deep and most guys on them are forgettable. So the blanks are only players a sports fan would probably know, pulled from real jersey records. That’s why a board is 8 or 10 names, not 53. Naming half of them is a good day. We also have the whole roster behind the board. So a 12th man off the bench gets checked against the real roster and counts as a deep cut.

Tips

  • Being wrong only costs you time. Type every name that pops into your head. Don’t second-guess it.
  • Start with the quarterback, the ace or the star. Then work out to the guys who came in with him.
  • Deadline pickups and one-season vets are usually where the last two blanks hide.

Want more? Name the college in Alma Mater. Or name the player from his career in Career Path.
